Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that uses a powerful sequence of postures combined with breath to create an internal heat that opens the muscles and purifies the body. Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient systematic practice of yoga that slowly builds in difficulty to allow students to safely access their full potential. Focus on breath, balance, and energy allows students to bring all their attention to the flow of postures in moving meditation.
In this tropical island setting, Clayton will introduce traditional Ashtanga yoga, Sunrise and Sunset meditations, basic pranayamas, Vedic chants for peace and wellness, Homa Fire Ceremonies and Kirtan chanting. Asana will be presented in the Mysore style and led class format as taught to him by his teachers Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharat of the Ashtanga Research Institute in Mysore India . Evening gatherings will be an opportunity for Q&A, yoga philosophy and asana technique. Students of all levels are welcome. This is an exotic, gentle and peaceful opportunity to deepen and refine your yoga practice - beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Some portions of the retreat will be dedicated to mouna, or silence, to facilitate repose and introspection as we ring in the New Year. Come and join us create sacred space and ritual for our New Year's celebration.
